BRIEF HISTORY:
The 26th of October, 1943, marked the emergence of the Catholic Church in Mushin. On that day a small church was built of bamboo sticks with thatched roof. The church named St. Michael's, was blessed and opened for the Mushin community on Oyegunle Street, Idi-oro by Rev. Fr. E. Birmingham, S.M.A of blessed memory. He was then a Curate under Rev. Fr. Galvin, S.M.A, Rector of St. Patrick's Catholic Church now St. Dominic's Yaba.
Consequently, upon the movement of more faithful from Lagos Mainland to Idi-oro, the early period of 1941 witnessed an upsurge in the number of members of St. Patrick's resident in Idi-oro. These members later formed a community that was known as St. Anthony of Padua Friendly Society. The problem of how best to tackle the question of building a church at Idi-oro dominated discussion as meetings were held rotational basis in the house of members over a period of the year.
Those who contributed their time and money during this tutelage years are to mention few: Rev. Fr. G. Philips S.M.A, Chief F.E Akala, Messrs F.O Awomodu, S.O.M Olularu, J.A. Shatola, F.O Fadipe, S.D Omoniyi and F.O Ogunade all of blessed Memory. Chief F.E Akala donated a piece of land on a lease hold agreement to the community in July 1943. The land was raised and small church was built in October, 1943.
While Msgr. J. Onih was still the resident Priest, the membership increased considerably. This necessitated the thought of acquiring a bigger land. Fortunately, the Mission successfully entered into an agreement with Ojuwoye family for parcel of land along motor road Mushin.
His Grace, Late Archbishop Leo Taylor assigned Rev. Fr. D. Daily S.M.A, then Rector of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Gbaja Surulere to develop the new era. Rev. Fr. Daly later created the present mission House and a school/church. The church at Oyegunle Street was then relocated to the new site in 1955. Late Mr. John Faturoti who was then residing with Late Msgr. J. Onih Cleared the entire bush around the new area at this stage, funding became a problem.
Regina Mundi has been growing form strength to strength since the formation of the Parish up to this present moment. So many Priests have contributed to the state of the Parish. The church is presently served by the following Priests: Very Rev. Fr. Julius Olaitan (Parish Priest), and Fr. Callistus Onyele (Associate Priest).
